About Premix: History

Founded in 1959 in Conneaut, Ohio by Ford Davey and George Kaull, the purpose was to manufacture thermoset molding compounds known as BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) and compression mold electrical components from these materials. Today Premix is the largest North American developer, formulator and manufacturer of thermoset compounds and manufacturer of thermoset molded parts, sub-assemblies serving the widest range of markets, applications, and customers with over 50 years of experience.

In early 1964, Premix had outgrown the multiple small buildings rented in Conneaut, Ohio and purchased a 35 acre farm on Route 20 in North Kingsville. Here Premix constructed a 20,000 square foot facility for manufacturing both compounds and molded parts. In the ensuing years, numerous additions to the facility have increased the floor space to over 300,000 square feet. Today this facility houses the Premix Corporate Headquarters and Research Laboratories, the Compounding Group, the Custom Molding Group, and the International Group. Quantum Composites, a wholly owned subsidiary, is located in Bay City, Michigan and manufactures high performance thermoset structural composites.

We have the widest range of commercial composite materials available including SMC (Sheet Molding Compound), BMC (Bulk Molding Compound), TMC (Thick Molding Compound), ESC™ (Engineered Structure Composite™ Molding Compound), OpTorr (Optimized Low Pressure Molding Compound), and Pemtex (Conductive Thermoset Composite Molding Compound) - and a custom molder of components for all market areas.

Premix first entered the world of international business by accepting a contract in 1970s to design, install, start-up and run a small compounding/molding operation in Brazil. Over the next few years, Premix successfully started up a wholly owned subsidiary in Livingston, Scotland and joint ventures in Japan and Mexico. During the late 1970, Premix was on a fairly rapid growth rate and during this period we converted our international equity positions into Technical Assistance and Trademark Licenses. From then we continued to expand our international presence through continuing development of affiliates worldwide.

Today we operate internationally in Europe and Asia through a network of licensees, affiliates and partners, which allows us to support our customers worldwide.
